Interacting sources of interference during sensorimotor integration processes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Every day, a multitude of interfering sensory inputs needs to be integrated and adequately processed using response selection processes. Interference effects are typically investigated using classical paradigms like the Flanker and Simon task. The sources of interference for Flanker and Simon effect are known to be different and according to dual process accounts, two distinct functional pathways are involved in resolving these types of interference. It is an open question how far these sources of interference are related to each other and interact. We investigated this question in a system neurophysiological study utilizing a hybrid paradigm combining both Flanker effect-like and Simon effect-like features. We focus on event-related theta oscillations and use beamforming methods to examine functional neuroanatomical networks. The results show that Simon and Flanker interference interacted in a non-additive fashion by modulating theta band activity, probably reflecting the recruitment of cognitive control processes. Beamforming source reconstruction revealed that theta band activity was related to a broad neuronal network comprising prefrontal and cerebellar regions, including the MFG, SFG, IFG, and SMA. These regions were connected to interference processing and conflict resolution, but differed in the amount of specificity for different sources of interference.

Mechanisms of Practice-Related Reductions of Dual-Task Interference with Simple Tasks: Data and Theory
In dual-task situations, interference between two simultaneous tasks impairs performance. With practice, however, this impairment can be reduced. To identify mechanisms leading to a practice-related improvement in sensorimotor dual tasks, the present review applied the following general hypothesis: Sources that impair dual-task performance at the beginning of practice are associated with mechan...
متن کاملCortical dynamics of sensorimotor integration during grasp planning.
Our sensorimotor interactions with objects are guided by their current spatial and perceptual features, as well as by learned object knowledge. A fresh red tomato is grasped differently than a soft overripe tomato, even when those objects possess the same spatial metrics of size and shape. Objects' spatial and perceptual features need to be integrated during grasping, but those features are ana...
متن کاملThe integration of probabilistic information during sensorimotor estimation is unimpaired in children with Cerebral Palsy
BACKGROUND It is important to understand the motor deficits of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). Our understanding of this motor disorder can be enriched by computational models of motor control. One crucial stage in generating movement involves combining uncertain information from different sources, and deficits in this process could contribute to reduced motor function in children with CP. H...

Information integration plays an important role in academic environments since it provides a comprehensive view of education data and enables mangers to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of education processes. However, the problem in the traditional information integration is the lack of personalization due to weak information resource or unavailability of analysis functionality. In this ...
